A Chat With: Flo La Vita | My New Series!

6 December 2017

Hey everyone!

This is my first post of my new series *'A Chat With:' and my first guest is the lovely Flo from 'Flo La Vita', her blog is www.flolavita.blogspot.com. You should definitely check it out, it's one of my favourites! Thank you so much to Flo as well for taking part in this new little series.

*'A Chat With:' is a little series where I'll upload an interview with an amazing blogger once or twice a month (haven't decided properly yet). I asked on insta story about it a couple of weeks ago and I got such a good response and lots of blogger asking to take part, so thank you!

Hi Flo, firstly I would like to ask you to describe your blog in a couple of sentences?

I'd like to think that my blog is cosy, that's the sort of vibe I want to give off! I've always said 'I want people reading to feel like they're having a cosy chat with a cup of tea on a night in'. It's also very friendly, there's definitely a very tight community of lovely people there as well!

So lovely! I'm always really interested in knowing why people started their blogs, could you tell me why you started yours?

I started when I was about ten year old, so that must have been 2015. Whenever someone asks this I don’t know what to say because to be honest, I’m not completely sure. I think I got the idea from people like Tanya Burr because their jobs all seemed like so much fun! I also wasn’t very happy with my relationship between my friends and that got me down quite a bit, so I kind of saw blogging as an escape. But I’m so glad that I carried on with it because its helped me massively and I think that’s something people reading don’t see as much because they don’t see your life offline. But being able to express my feelings through writing online and sharing so much with potentially anyone who comes across me really builds confidence!

I really love your post, ‘Affordable Products For Winter Pampering’! What’s your favourite post you’ve ever uploaded and why?

I always love the posts I do in collaboration with brands because its really nice to be able to build a relationship with a brand that I like as well as just writing a post. Also posts that are more personal to me such as ‘lets talk about: Growth’ are some of my favourites to write because I’m able benefit from it as well as my readers because I’m putting myself out there and being completely honest. Which I also think is a good way to get to know the reader at the same time.

Us bloggers love what we do, but have you experienced any struggles along the way that maybe changed your views about blogging?

Online there will always be things that are upsetting and there will always be people who aren’t genuine and who will see the fact that they are behind a screen as an opportunity to be nasty. Essentially, you are sharing your life with the world and not everybody is going to like it. People have been horrible to me online before but I wouldn’t say that it’s changed my views on blogging massively, its shown me another side to blogging and I think it just makes me stronger the next time.

I find it really hard sometimes to balance school, life and blogging. I obviously prioritise school over blogging but do you have any other tips on how to balance everything?

Most of my content goes up at the weekend. I do a blog post every Saturday and an edit every Sunday. Monday to Friday I’ll do a couple of tweets and a couple of Instagram pictures but mostly I’m not very active through school time. I’m terrible with homework, I do it in a rush the night before, but I do prioritise school work over blogging. Though I blog at weekends, I do still go out with friends, I’m an early bird so most of the blogging gets done in the morning and then I have the rest of the day free for friends!

I know you post a bit of everything on your blog, but if you had to choose one niche to carry on writing about for the rest of your blogging life, what would it be and why?

Definitely the chatty posts where I talk about things like body image, growth, feminism ect. I feel like that’s what benefits my readers the most and I also really enjoy writing them.

What would you say makes your blog stand out?

I think the honesty and how real everything is makes it stand out. I always like to tell it how it is, If i’ve had a crappy day then I’m not going to hide it and pretend that everything’s fine, I’m gonna talk about it. I’m a really open person, which I think helps when talking about slightly more ‘taboo’ topics. Lots of people get really embarrassed talking about their period, call me weird, but I will very openly tell you how bad my cramps are right now, but I will also make it less about me and make sure its helpful at the same time. For example, if I feel like having a rant about periods, I will also make a blog post about how to deal with the cramps. I think being open and honest with the reader makes the blog more relatable.

Lastly, if you had any advice for someone that wants to start a blog, what would it be?

Go for it. I think younger people’s biggest worry when starting a blog is people finding out about it and that resulting in bullying, but so many people go anonymous and that’s completely normal. Another thing is, don’t follow the crowd. So many young girls write about fashion and beauty, that’s not the only thing people blog about. Whatever you’re interested in, even if its completely obscure, there will be an audience out there, you just need to draw them in. If you are happy with what you’re doing then that is what matters!

That's it! The end of my first 'A Chat With:', let me know what you think! Thank you again to Flo for being such an amazing first guest. I really loved interviewing you.
