4 Ways To Hygge Up Your Room For Autumn

27 September 2017

Hey everyone! Hope you're all okay <3

"Hygge (pronounced 'hue-gah') is a quality of presence and an experience of togetherness. It is a feeling of being warm, safe, comforted and sheltered. Hygge is an experience of selfhood and communion with people and places that anchors and affirm us, gives us courage and consolation."

If you would have tried to talk to me about Hygge a little while ago, I would have listened but I really wouldn't have been interested. I'm getting better at it, but I'm not that keen on relaxing. My brain is go go go 24/7 and I can't stop thinking about things I probably don't need to think about. I'm really trying hard to calm down my mind and create to do lists each day so when I've finished the things I need to do, I can just focus on myself or do things that I enjoy to do.

Every Autumn and Winter I really try to make sure my room is a cosy, comfortable, warm and motivating place for me to be in because I feel like I need motivation a little more when the nights close in and you feel like the day is over at 4pm.

Here are some ways you can Hygge up your room for the colder months ahead:

Throws and Cushions

I have recently bought this super soft cushion from Primark to go on my bed and it immediately added a sense of comfort and cosiness to my room. I'm so going to get more! My auntie kindly gifted the throw you can slightly see in this photo to me for Christmas last year. I can't tell you the amount of times I have wrapped up in this after school when it's so cold outside.

Plants or Succulents

I love having little succulents and cacti in my room; in some way I feel like they boost my room and add a positive vibe to it. They make my room feel more fresh and light. It is really weird how something so little and inexpensive can make you feel happier and brighter.

Motivational Quotes

Having little motivational postcards in your room probably isn't necessary, however things like this do boost my happiness in the sense of giving me determination that I can do anything if I put my mind to it.

Fairy Lights

I could not write this post without including fairy lights, that would just be wrong. Fairy lights are the key to everything; warmth, comfort and cosiness. Basically most things Hygge!

I really hope you have enjoyed this post and maybe got a few ideas on how to Hygge up your room for Autumn and Winter.
